Mission
To cultivate a community of families and teachers working together to provide a safe, stimulating and positive environment that enhances and fosters the physical, emotional, cognitive, creative and social development of individual children through play-based learning and discovery. This will be implemented by practising an emergent and constructivist curriculum; children learn through doing.

EXPLORER PROGRAM
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
12:30pm to 3:00pm

This program is for children aged 4 & 5 who are interested in having an opportunity to spend their afternoons outdoors, exploring the many natural and man made play spaces in Rio Terrace and the neighboring areas. It is our goal to spend at least half the afternoon outside every day, walking, wondering, playing and enjoying the natural world. By immersing children in the wonders of nature, it allows them to explore, discover, and learn through hands-on experiences. Whether it's observing insects and squirrels, collecting leaves, building with snow or feeling the crunch of gravel beneath their feet, every moment outdoors is an opportunity for growth and exploration.

Questions:
What is the FLIGHT framework?
The Alberta FLIGHT framework is a comprehensive approach to early childhood education that prioritizes learning and development through play-based experiences. It emphasizes including families in a child's education and creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where children can learn, develop their identity, and grow socially and emotionally. The framework also highlights the importance of hands-on activities and collaboration within a supportive team of educators. Play is a crucial tool for promoting all aspects of a child's growth and development in a holistic and integrated way.
How does my child learn through play?
Children learn through play by immersing themselves in activities that spark their curiosity and creativity. Whether exploring unfamiliar materials, imagining in role-play, creating art, or solving problems, each playful moment nurtures various developmental skills.
Outdoor play encourages physical health and teamwork; interactive stories and music enhance language development. Ultimately, play provides a holistic foundation for learning, with every experience being a valuable lesson.
Every moment of fun and laughter is a learning opportunity, and every new discovery is a stepping stone to holistic growth. We strive to make every day a canvas of opportunity, ensuring every child's earliest experiences are joyous and enriching.
